LIFE POSITIONING SYSTEM

LIFE IS A JOURNEY
Have you ever reached a point in your travels when you didn't know which way to go? Or you knew where you wanted to go, but weren't quite sure how to get there? Or perhaps there were many ways to get there but which one was the quickest? . . . most scenic? . . . least mileage? The new technology available in the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) sure comes in handy. It reads where you are and determines the best way to get you where you want to go, taking into consideration the type of travel you want to do, side stops you may want to make, etc.

Have you ever felt that way about your life? You've wished you had a compass, or a GPS system with a little arrow pointing in the direction you need to go. Then all you'd need to do is move your position so that little arrow is pointing forward - eventually you'll get where you want to be. Sometimes each of us wishes life were like that; that we had a "Life Positioning System" that could keep us pointing forward in a positive direction, no matter what type of surface we're on or how many bends there are in the road.

Point Forward Planning is a method that can help you establish your own Life Positioning System™ (LPS).

Creating your personal LPS

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
The first step is knowing where you are. It is important to get a reading of what's going on in your life right now. What issues are you grappling with? What makes you tick? Where is your attention? What is your passion? What values and beliefs influence your decisions?

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO?
Next you have to have information about where you're headed. What would you like your life to look like next year; in five years? What do you hope to accomplish in your life time? What will it take for you to think 'I've lived a good life'? Are their any specific dreams you have or goals you want to achieve?

HOW DO YOU WANT TO TRAVEL?
Some GPS systems have the ability to notify you about nearby attractions, gas stations, restaurants, etc. that you will pass on the way. Do you want to take the highway or the scenic route? What is important to make for time in your life? What are things you're willing to forego, and what do you absolutely not want to miss?

These are some of the initial steps in preparing for any journey, and coaching starts by helping you do this type of planning for yourself. Then, like a GPS system, coaching encourages you to check in while your on your journey and make any necessary adjustments to your direction.
